VoiceLive 3 Extreme spontaneous reboot

12 July 2017

Video showing looping reboots

Pedal was powered on for about an hour, while searching through and configuring guitar amps. After 30-45min, occasional pops started sounding. At about the one-hour mark, the pedal spontaneously rebooted, then showed a “checking file system” note.

Pickled Prescience

Pick a peck of pickled peppers
Pack them in a purple pot.
Pour a pint of Pinot on them
Pious? We are not.

Pipe the pirate from his perch
Then pin him right in place.
Pinch him till he pees his pants,
And the pitchman pleads his case.

Planetisimal secrets ply
The parlor, cold and dim.
But the peppers in their pot await
The prankster, and the prim.

Twittering versus blogging

One of my issues with blogging is the lack of feedback, as noted previously. As an alternative, I’m finding that Twitter and Flickr combined with FaceBook is kinda cool. It’s straightforward to tweet about whatever, especially since I can post from my iPhone, which then shows up as my FaceBook status. Similarly, I can post pix to Flickr and also have them show up as an update on FB. I know that at least my friends on FB are seeing (however briefly, until it scrolls off) what I’m doing, and I’ll occasionally even get responses (and can respond to their posts).

So I’m not sure what to do with the blog at this point. Fun to have, I guess. Dunno what, if anything, to replace it with, other than maybe a more business-oriented site.

If one hand claps in the forest…

Created a Twitter account today, partly because I’m thinking about doing Santarchy next Saturday and they’re planning to use Twitter to communicate on the day, partly because it’s survived long enough it might be worth a look. It’s like Yahoo Groups for TXTers – one person has 2100 people he was following and 2200 following him, another woman follows 5,644, has 7,253 following her. Wonder how many people actually correspond, versus the lurkers?

Even so, 7,000 reading your tweets is non-trivial, even if one is a “Bio Social Web Strategist.”

It’s kinda fun to post snippets re whatever I’m thinking / doing / experiencing at the moment. My approach would change, though, if I had a couple thousand people paying attention. Heck, my approach changed with ONE person paying attention.

Antibiotics and Tendon Damage

A sorta weird one: I took five days of ciprofloxacin earlier this year for a killer sinus infection. It worked, but I noticed that my left Achilles tendon developed a new, unusually sharp pain when I stretched or pushed hard on the bike. I backed off on stressing it (probably avoiding serious damage), then googled on ciprofloxacin. Found out it, and the other related fluoroquinolone antibiotics have history re tendon damage.

Now it’s to the point where ABC News has done a story on it. There are a lot of other links if you Google on “antibiotic tendon”.

My Achilles seems OK now, but it took maybe three months of being careful before the soreness went away.

HELLO Hello hello ehoh ehoh…

Uh, yeah, still here, despite evidence to the contrary.

Got caught up pretty heavily in estate stuff for my mom April through July, just digging myself out. As part of going through my mom’s stuff, I found a local chapter of FreeCycle that’s pretty cool. It’s a forum for people with stuff to give away to find people that can use it. Been on the list for a couple months now, and it’s surprisingly active. Goodwill can be picky about what it will accept — I ended up staging a couple boxes with the best stuff on top so it was more appealing.

But it’s getting done. Am looking forward to having it wrapped up by the end of the year. Here’s hoping…

Finishing up the scholastic year

Having been telling people in a low-key way that I’m taking classes, spending this year being a student, and they mostly haven’t been getting it. Dunno whether it’s the mismatch between “40-something male” and “school,” or that nobody believes web-based learning could be serious. Finally got a few people to notice a couple weeks ago with “sorry, can’t make it, I have to finish midterms.” “Oh? I didn’t know you were taking classes.” Funny how language and presentation makes such a difference.

The Arranging mid-term project came out pretty OK, a Brazilian version of a Tina Turner song I Want You Near Me; my band Sweatbox played it earlier this year. Even the score looks kinda cool.

The Style Writing material has been fun, though mostly not very showy. The first half covered Brazilian and Afro Cuban forms and combinations, with the second half moving into soul, Motown, and funk. Am now startled I’ve never paid attention to James Brown, didn’t have a single track of his in my collection.
